From Idea to Print: How LK Pieces Actually Come Together

Every LK design starts the same way, with an idea that I either act on straight away or write down somewhere so I don’t forget it.

If I can’t start illustrating in the moment, I’ll jot down a few notes on what I want it to look like, colours, layout, little details, so when I come back to it later I’m not starting from scratch (or trying to remember what I was thinking lol).

Some designs come together in a few hours, others take a few days, and some I’ll leave, come back to, change completely, and keep going until it actually feels right.

It really depends on the design, how it’s going, and how much I’m procrastinating on any given day, which varies.

Once I’m happy with it, everything moves into print.

All LK prints, greeting cards, and stationery are done in small batches, so nothing is mass produced and things get restocked as they sell.

Everything is printed, cut, and packaged by me, which means what you’re getting has actually been handled properly from start to finish, not just sent off somewhere and forgotten about.

Cards take a bit of time as well, they need to be printed, cut, left to dry, and then packaged before they’re ready to go.

Same with prints, everything is checked, packed, and sent out carefully so it actually arrives looking how it should.

I always prioritise orders as they come in, especially if someone needs something for a present or a specific date, so things are turned around as quickly as possible.

It’s a mix of planning, figuring things out as I go, and just getting stuck in, which seems to work (most of the time).
