A Note from Nat

Hey, hi, how are ya?
Hey, hi, how are ya? I’m Nat, the brains (lol)/designer/founder behind Loon Kaboon.
Here’s the lowdown on LK:
Like a lot of small creative businesses, LK started in my lil apartment, during lockdown in 2020.
I had just moved back from LA, was missing the sunshine, felt beyond bored, and desperately needed a creative outlet to draw my attention away from the endless days of *nothing*.
So, I started doodling on my Samsung tablet (yes, not even an iPad, the horror). The doodling developed into mocking up designs for prints and cards as an evening hobby when we could go nowhere and do literally nothing.
One evening I thought “why not pop a few of these up on Etsy, see what happens”. The designs resonated with some people (not all, but that’s to be expected). And it gradually grew from there, starting with local Stoneybatter markets and pop-ups around town.
After a couple of years doing markets and online sales, migrating from Etsy to my own standalone website (a distant relative and presumably shite iteration of this very one), myself and my partner JJB packed up and moved to Barcelona for 3 years.
Card/print culture isn’t quite as popular there, so LK got put on a semi-hiatus. That gave me the perfect opportunity to figure out what I wanted LK to be, and where I wanted to go with it. I was still drawing and designing, but more for me and less for socials and sales. That being said, there were always people supporting the small business grind, for which I’ll be forever grateful (thanks ma x).
Now I’m back in Dublin, have been working away in my Liberties design studio for the past few months, and am super looking forward to bringing you a new and (hopefully) improved version of Loon Kaboon.
Same funky vibes, same fun typography and colourful graphics. Follow along for fab bits and a bit of fun xo
